Morgantown midwife writes memoir
Patricia Harman of Morgantown has written a memoir about experiences as a midwife.
In "The Blue Cotton Gown: A Midwife's Memoir" (Beacon Press, $24.95), Harman tells the stories of about a dozen patients as well as her personal struggles.
Harman and her husband Tom, a gynecologist, run a women's health clinic. She is a nurse-midwife on the faculty at West Virginia University.
"Harman comes across as a wonderful, empathic friend and listener and the stories she tells here, intertwined with her own life, are personal and moving," Library Journal writes, highly recommending the book for public and medical libraries.
Library Journal writes, "This memoir covers a year in her life as a nurse-midwife, wife, mother of three grown sons, and woman beset by her own health, emotional, marital and financial problems."
