CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin announced at a press conference today that all of the funding for a new Marsh Fork Elementary School has been secured.

Massey Energy and the Raleigh County school board have agreed to come up with the $1.5 million that was still needed after it was announced on Thursday that the Annenberg Foundation offered $2.5 million to help build the school.

The new school will allow students, faculty and staff to move away from the adjacent Massey Energy coal-processing plant and the huge Massey slurry impoundment that sits just up the hollow from the school.

With the $2.5 from the Annenberg Foundation, Raleigh County still needed $1.5 for the $8.6 million the new school.

The state School Building Authority already awarded the county $2.6 million. Previously, Massey Energy agreed to provide $1 million and the county already had $1 million -- and a smaller contribution from Coal River Mountain Watch of $10,000 -- but $4 million was still needed to fund the $8.6 million project.
