Chemical leak shuts down unit at Tyler Co. plant
SISTERVILLE, W.Va. -- Momentive Performance Materials has shut down a unit at its manufacturing facility in Tyler County following a chemical leak.
Company spokesman John Scharf said a combination of hydrochloric acid and silicon powder called trichlorosilane leaked from the unit at about 2 p.m. Sunday.
Scharf said there were no injuries or environmental impact. The company suppressed the vapors with a foam blanket.
Emergency officials temporarily closed a portion of W.Va. 2 until the leak was controlled.
Scharf said the company is investigating the leak. The unit will remain shut down until the cause of the leak has been determined and corrective measures have been taken.
