Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., announced the funding from the E-Rate program Thursday.
Rockefeller says 21 counties will share the funding, along with the state Department of Education and the Regional Education Service Agency.
Rockefeller created the E-Rate program. It's intended to ensure that students can access the Internet, regardless of where they live or their family's income.
Since the program began in 1996, West Virginia has received more than $150 million.
