South Charleston High school senior point guard Sissy Wagner will sign a letter of intent today to play basketball at West Virginia State.
Wagner started for the Class AAA state runner-up Black Eagles in 2010 and averaged 13.7 points. Wagner also started on the 2009 South Charleston team that was eliminated in the state tournament quarterfinals.
Under second-year coach Renee Bostic, West Virginia State finished 16-12 in the 2009-10 season, losing to eventual champion Fairmont State in the first round of the conference tournament.
St. Joseph point guard Dusti Chapman and Parkersburg South forward Asia Greenleaf have each signed to play at West Virginia State next season.
Chapman is a four-time Class A first-team all-state selection and led the Irish to back-to-back state titles. Greenleaf was a third-team all-state pick twice and was a member of the Patriots' 2008 Class AAA state championship team.

Bo Darby and Jeremy Fisher each hit home runs in the first game as a five-run top of the sixth gave the Yellow Jackets a lead it wouldn't surrender. Josh Bower hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh in game two to break a 3-3 tie and give State the sweep.

MARSHALL BASEBALL: Marshall fell to visiting Eastern Kentucky 10-0 Wednesday. Eastern Kentucky scored four runs in the first inning and lead the entire way. Five Colonel pitchers held Marshall (13-19) to five hits.

WVC BASEBALL: The NCAA Division II baseball committee released its Atlantic Region rankings of the 2010 season Wednesday with four WVC squads in the top 10. West Virginia State (19-6) is ranked third in the region, Seton Hill is fifth, Concord is sixth and Pitt Johnstown is sixth.

WVC SOFTBALL: No. 6 West Virginia Wesleyan heads up four West Virginia Conference softball squads in the Division II softball committee's regional rankings. No. 7 Fairmont State, No. 8 Shepherd and No. 10 University of Charleston were also ranked. UC (23-15) is ranked for the first time this season.
