Quick exit for Herd
Middle Tennessee has fast start, Marshall has no answer in 86-78 NIT loss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -  Alas, "The Uprising" is over.

Laboring four months with that marketing battle cry, Marshall's adventurous 2011-12 season ended Tuesday night in a game nobody could call an uprising or anything close.

Middle Tennessee took advantage of its home floor, nine days' rest and a often-dead-legged visitor in an 86-78 victory in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament at a lively Murphy Center.

UConn buried the "tired" excuse forever last year. Also, it's not an advantage to not have played in ten days. Can't think of a single coach who would want to be off that long going into a tournament. Lose the excuses. If Marshall was anywhere near to being as good as they thought they were, they should have easily handled a lowly Sun Belt opponent like MTSU. This is a team that believed that they were actually a #1 NIT seed. If that were true, home court and fatigue should have been meaningless. Tired legs? These are 18-21 year old kids. And playing basketball 30-40 minutes a day five times in a week is overwhelming, particularly at this time of the season? Didn't seem to hurt Western Kentucky. Didn't the Hilltoppers fight all the way through their conference tournament, and go on the road for an NCAA game tonight? Tomorrow it will be all about the conspiracy by the officials to keep Marshall down. Is there any excuse we've left out?

Wow...a quick exit for sure, will this happen to WVU also? Looks like FB trumps BB at these two WV universities, WV thumped Clemson in the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL and Marshall beat FL International in the Beef Pattie Bowl in Wrinkle City FL! There's always next year...Maybe!

Is it better to play and possibly win the NIT than be one and done in the big dance? Well, her91 you got it wrong again. It looks like left/right Harper Valley PTA Tech took it to you. But then again who knows because I couldnt find it on TV.Looks like the selecion crew got it right after all. We wont hear from her91 today because he will be hiding under his proverbial rock that he goes to when his predictions fail.

What I like about this is some of the comments earlier on about WVU watching how the "real men play BB" and the "one and done"comment.Just like last year in the CIT,Marsha didn't get anything done except talk."We play for Championships".Marsha really needs to rethink that motto.

Wow, can't even win a game in the National Rejects Tournament. Yeah, like no one saw this coming. Those Herdtards haven't won a post season game in 45 years.

So much for all you Herdtards saying you were robbed by not going to the REAL tournament. I told you the Committee knew you stink.

I see your coach is making excuses about you poor Herdies. Remember . . . winners train, losers complain.

i cant wait for herd 91's version of this train wreck. maybe the "sun got in their eyes" will be rolled out as excuse number 141. one interesting and unknown fact, at least to me, came out of the game in that kane leads the nation in techncial fouls. hey, we're number 1, we're number 1.

The being tired excuse is sour grapes. If the Herd players were so tired, how did they manage to nice run toward the end of the game to cut a 21 point lead by MTS to only 5 points? Another lame excuse commonly used by losers.

What was the yelling about that MU's Pena was doing at Coach Herrion in the first half? Pena, a senior, had to be held back from attacking his head coach.

Why are all these WVU "fans" commenting? How did their alma mater of Everest Institute do in any sports this year?

Hey Norman: Maybe it would be a good thing if Marshall's fanbase included just a few more folks that didn't attend that fine institution. Do you think then the attendance rate for major sports would be better than 50%?

Just remember WVU fans, We were proud of our team when they won teh NIT just a few short years ago. THe NIT is a HUGE step up from where the herd was last year. I am not a big fan of mu, but do want them to do good anytime except against WVU.

I wonder if Jack Bogasick is still NITpicking? After all, only one team in WV had the right! Moo sure showed the doubters hat they should have been in the Big Dance didn't they? But if the Mounties lay an egg on Thursday night, hey, at least no one expected them to be there anyhow did they?

It's a shame that the Herd made such a quick exit but on a positive note, they have been in the postseason for 3 consecutive years. Coach Herrion has something to build on. Success breeds success so my thoughts are that Marshall fans should spend a little more time supporting their program and a little less trying to tear down Big Brothers up north and start supporting their program.

Get out, buy some season tickets for all sports, push for not only the completion of the football practice facility but an overall upgrade to all facilities, including a C-USA approved baseball facility.

Simply put, it's time to put up or shut up Herd fans.

Wow, how did I know all the haters would be out today? You guys need lives! I am quite proud of my alma mater, and think Coach H. has them going in the right direction. I also think fatigue and home court was a significant factor (sorry to contradict the all knowing Moose). Watching the game, it was clear MTSU had the energy edge, they popped out 8 - 0 on it, and the final margin was.... 8 points. Pretty telling.

Not sure how many posters on here watched the game, but I watched most of it. Marshall was lost at times on defense, giving up very easy baskets. MTSU made a wide open three about 5 or 6 minutes in and Herrion called timeout. He said something to Pena and he yelled back at Herrion. The coach started to talk to the team and Pena continued yelling at him, seeming to indicate it wasn't his fault, and had to be restrained by an assitant. I wasn's sure if Pena would get back in based on the way he acted.

Marshall made a good comeback, but with about 2:30 left Kane got called for a charge. They had cut it to five and the MTSU player was moving when contact was made. They could have cut it to 2 or 3 at that point. I can remember five calls being made that would either be a charge on Marshall or a block against MTSU. All were charges.

MTSU definitely looked like the fresher team. Kane stood next to the bench after he fouled out. I know he was frustrated, but looked strange.

DooHooty and AaronS mention attendance at MU games, but MU ranked 3 among conference USA in bball this year. Behind Memphis yet ahead of UCF - which is in Orlando which has a population of 2 million people. Compared to other CUSA teams, MU pulls in more fan support per capita than all other teams.

Anytime the Herd stumbles you can count on Chocolate Moose, Just Jill and a few others to get on here and trash the Herd. Hard to like wvu when they have fans like that. Aaron S--read some the stuff these guys write and tell me wvu has class fans. Anyway, the Herd did not look good and should have won this game. I for one am proud of them and feel coach has them headed in the right direction.

So Norm you say attendance is good. Does that mean you dropped the requirement that all fans are graduates? Or, are you checking diplomas at the gate?

You have numbers for this year Norman? If so, provide a link please becasue all I see are last years numbers, where Marshall averaged 5,524 per home game ranking 100th in the nation. For what it's worth, they still ranked 3rd in their conference.

Considering though that Conference USA ranks 9th with an average attendance of 5,679 though (and where will they be when Memphis takes their 16,768 to the Big East) it's nothing to brag about.

Like I said, instead of tearing down BIG BROTHER (who ranks 33'rd at 11,529), why don't you guys start supporting your own team.

    Here's my reference. Where's yours?

Right, the reason some of you dislike WVU is because a handful of fans are meanies on a meesage board? What's next, holding your breath until Moose apologizes?

My reference came in the alumni newsletter. See when you attend a school, your school actually acknowledges you rather than acknowledge a bunch of fake wanna be fans.
